Fondly referred to as “The San Francisco of Mexico” for its numerous museums and artsy community, Guadalajara boasts numerous gay resources, including a radio show and a community center. The radio show can be heard by tuning into 104.3 FM every Saturday at midnight for the latest in current events and gay-oriented news. The Centro Cultural Comunitario Gay de Guadalajara (Av. Alcalde 743), which is operated by the non-profit organization Homo Sapiens, offers the community a safe place to meet and greet. In addition, there is an online magazine for local information at www.gaygdl.com.
After a long day of visiting all the sites and attractions of Guadalajara, relax at one of the many bath houses in the city. Visit Baños La Fuente (Manuel Acuña 1107), with a general or private steam room, and enjoy a relaxing massage.
When the sun sets, striking men and women hit the town and unload on the popular Angels Bar and Disco (Lopez Cotilla 1495), boasting heart-thumping electronica and house music until the wee hours. Another local spot is Monica’s Disco (Alvaro Obregon 1713), playing some of the latest Latin American rhythms.
Guadalajara offers an array of accommodations for every budget and taste. One of the most popular gay-friendly hotels is Hotel San Francisco (Delgado No. 267), located in the heart of downtown within walking distance to the sightseeing, shopping and several of the gay bars.
The gay Scene in Guadalajara is HUGE… it’s been thriving since decades ago and keeps going strong. Back in the 90’s the government closed all the gay bars, always in some administrative fault, but they managed to reopen again bigger and stronger.
Guadalajara has now it’s own Pride Parade in June and at any given time, there’s somewhere between 15 to 20 gay bars open in the city for all the different tastes. There’s bathhouses, bars, clubs, etc. The most famous is the HUGE Monica’s that can host up to maybe 5,000 people and opened in 1980. There’s also Angel’s and Circus. Usually, clubs start getting busy around 11 and some of them close at 2. Then people goes to Monica’s that closes at 5 or 6, and if you still have the party bug, go back to Angel’s that opens again as an afterhours until 10AM.
Once in GDL, try to find “La Guia Rosa” (The Pink Guide) or “Zona Gay” (Gay Zone duh!), the local magazines with info about the latest bar-openings and events.
So as you can see, the gay night life is quite open and fun in Guadalajara. Yes you may not be able to hug and kiss in the open daylight without causing a stir, at the end is a very “conservative” society, and just make sure who do you associate yourself with and you’ll be safe. You can have lots of fun and make some new friends over there.

Old Guadalajara is an adult Bed and Breakfast in the very heart of the downtown historical district of Guadalajara. Just three blocks away is the Colonial Center — Opera, main plazas, museums, cathedral, historical monuments and colorful markets — an ideal location for those seeking unpretentious luxury, fine quality and comfort. No other house has our superb location for getting to know the Centro Histórico. We offer a refreshing escape from hackneyed commercialism and the clichés of hotel life in a refined private home.
Our carefully restored and excessively large 16th century town house, formerly part of the Sta. María de Gracia convent, is resplendent with antiques, paintings, Persian rugs and other civilized amenities. The large and ample rooms give the pleasure and volume of bygone grandeur.
We provide an ambiance of quality and taste in an elegant, truly Mexican townhouse without the exaggerations of theatrical overstatement so often found in tourist accommodations.
Several years of experience and success in receiving guests and attending to their personal needs has been rewarded by most positive — and even flattering — reviews in various Internet travel pages.
Each of the four very spacious upper floor suites has one queen size bed, a comfortable sitting area and a private bath. Three of them open onto an interior patio with bamboo, palms, flowers and even potted fruit trees. The fourth has balconies overlooking the street as well as opening onto the interior patio. The owners’ separate quarters enable them to maintain a high level of quality and yet assure their guests privacy and personalized attention without the risk of intrusion.
Our silver and linen breakfast, which includes a variety of fresh juices, fruits, pastries, eggs and other seasonal offerings, is served in the dining room in a bit formal yet clearly homelike style. Guests often spend hours sipping coffee or tea and chatting. Simple or very stylish restaurants are within easy reach.
Guests can relax in several sitting rooms, use our wireless Internet service for their laptops, or simply stroll through our safe and wonderfully interesting neighborhood.
The house is a quiet oasis in the bustle of a large city. We regret that smoking is not allowed and that we are unable to accommodate children. Guests may receive visitors in the downstairs sitting rooms.
