GAY DAY DISNEY 2005

Sunday, March 6th, 2005

I will be attending my 4th Gay Day Disney this coming June.  My friend Gary and I will be arriving to Orlando on June 3rd and leave the Monday after.  The festivity actually starts the Tuesday before right after Memorial Day.  There are many functions and parties to go to and it is almost impossible to do most of them in a three days period.  You can go to Gayday.com or Gaydays.com  to view the schedules these two websites offered.

These two entities are two separate groups; each of them offered unique and fun functions to go to.  I always make sure that I am at the Magic Kingdom on the first Saturday of June which will be June 4th for this year.  All the other events are extra for me to attend.  Last year, I attended my first Beach Ball (8) party at the Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.  I don’t care who organized it, but it was one of the best time I ever had at any Gay Day event.  The party started at 8 PM on Friday and continued on to 2 AM.  I think the ticket was $75 per person, and it was worth it.  The waves were turned on high and most of the rides were available for partygoers to use, including a very relaxing lazy river which you float on a slow moving streams while gazing at the stars or other half naked people.

My trip will starts on May 27, 2005.  That Friday I will leave my big city of Houston and spend the next three days in New Orleans, courtesy of Harrah’s casino.  I may alter my stay and head to Pensacola on Sunday or Monday.  Pensacola is a gay Mecca during the Memorial Holiday weekend.  Regardless, my friend Gary and I will be visiting his sister and family on Tuesday in Palm Harbor, Florida, an ethnically challenged community north of Clear Water and Tampa.  We also decided to visit South Beach on this trip.  I was raised in the 70s in, at that time a very small town, Margate, Florida about 30 minutes from Miami.  This town is now surrounded by Indian Casinos and my aunt’s house is only a two minute drive from the nearest casino.  For the last week I have been trying to get a nice hotel for Orlando and South  Beach through Priceline.com.  The budget for the hotels is only $50 per night.  As of today, I have not been successful with getting a room in Orlando, but I have my hotel room in South Beach for June 1st and 2nd via Priceline.com.  The hotel is the Holiday Inn South Beach on Collins Ave.; a ten minutes walk from Ocean Drive.  This is the same three stars hotel that Priceline.com got me back in 2003.  It has its own beach and a nice boardwalk.  The parking is free and all of its beach amenities are free to its guests.  The lowest rate for the room at this hotel as of today is $109.00 per night.  I got it for $40 per night!  The total amount I paid for this hotel is $98.58 for two nights, including tax and service fees.  I know the penny slots will eat me alive, so the deep discount rate for this hotel is good news.

I will keep an update on my Priceline.com Orlando hotel status.  If you are interested in going to Gay Day Disney 2005, starts saving your money.  Beside the cost of traveling, hotel cost, meals and functions, the average person may want to spend two to three days at the Disney Parks.  You can buy individual tickets to a certain park and it will cost around $60.  I had purchased a five days “Hopper Pass” last year and used only one day, so the remaining days (do not expired) are for me to use in the future.  The park hopper passes cost around $200 to $225 and up.  Please contact Disney or visit their website for more details.  For some, the only way to do Gay Day is to stay at one of the sponsored hotel, The Wyndham Palace or the Sheraton World Resort.  I have to admit, last year when I went to visit the Wyndham Palace at Downtown Disney; the place was taken over by thousands of gorgeous looking men.  Mean while, my $50 per night hotel, the Sheraton Safari, was a breeder’s paradise, with lots of children running around.  Keep in mind that I have 5 wonderful nieces and nephews all of whom have been to Disney with me and that two of them were with me for Gay Day Disney 2003.
