THE LOVE TRAIN
After spending five months getting ready for the Love Party 2008 – The Love Train, I am happy to say that the party was a major success. We raised a total of $876.00 on May 17 for HATCH (Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals). The 75 plus guests enjoyed hors’ doeuvres ranging from Vietnamese egg rolls, Vietnamese spring rolls, pate, cream cheese caviar, four kind of cheeses, petit fours and champagne cookies.
All the guests received a gift bag which contained various goodies including incense, toy train, train toot toot whopee cushion, a train whistle, a plastic beaded bracelet and various valentine ducks and rainbow colored feather boas. Our performers also received pink diva gloves, brass incense burner in the shape of an Aladin lamp.
Gary and I went purple for the party. Is it our bellies or the suits? I swear the camera really added an extra 100 pounds on us.
I want to thank my aunt, Linh, my aunt Van, my friends, Minh , Carl & Khoi, Kate and Gary for helping out with the “egg roll” fund. I also want to thank David, Adi, Chris, Diana, Julie & Lewis for helping me at the party.
I am grateful to have such wonderful entertainers including my guest of honor, Noel Boado/Yna Nova (who did not have a chance to make a speech) . Tribal Lillies, Christina Lee, China Doll and Yna Nova produced one incredible show.
A special thank to Meteor and its staff including the DJ for all their hard work that night.
LET US ENTERTAIN YOU
Chris Kerr of the Montrose Counseling Center took the mike at 8:30 pm and spoke about HATCH. Unfortunately, Chris’ partner, Michael, had to fly out to Malaysia this night so they had to rushed to the airport. Michael’s mother was suffering from an illness and I am sad to know that his mother passed away a short time after he arrived to Malaysia.
My three videos, What’s Left To Say, Hungry For Love & The Love Train was shown next and I am very happy to see that on the big screens at Meteor, the videos looked fabulous. The videos can be viewed at youtube.com (search for my name Carl Han and user name of cahan). Details of the videos will be at the very end of this article. I will also upload the entertainers’ performance on youtube in the near future.
THE DANCERS
The entertainers took over the stage with Cindy of Tribal Lillies starting off with an energetic solo dance which was immediately followed by the remaining dancers as they danced “In Two” by Carrie Ann & the Apocalyptics, a local band in Houston.
THE DIVAS
Yna Nova strutted her stuff in a Tina Turner inspired do. It was “HOT STUFF”! China Doll followed with a long diva entrance. She was covered from neck to toe in an outfit that reminded me of one of those boring teacher from the Harry Potter’s series. Within 30 seconds, China ripped it off to revealed a hot pink unitard that draw a big cheer from the crowd as she danced to the beat of Ms. Celine’s dance remix of ”Because You Loved Me”.
WHO’S AFRAID OF CHRISTINA LEE
Christina Lee’s first Houston’s public performance in many years did not dissappoint. Using a bar stool as her prop, she began slowly with “Lovin’ You” . Just when the audience thought that this was a typical drag diva number, Christina produced something that was truly frightening. Let put it this way; it was hot pink, about 12 inches long and thick as a wrist. The crowd roared with laughter as Christina was “lovin’it” with her tongue and lips’ action.
